Thank you for your interest in Webb's Chihuahuas!
We breed to show, so we usually keep any pups that look promising for the show ring. We breed maybe 1-3 litters a year if that. In terms of getting a pet puppy from us, it is generally much easier to get a male than a female because we don't usually keep males for our breeding program. Generally we can tell within 8-12 weeks that a pup will or won't make the cut as a show dog, but it may take up to 24 to 36 weeks to see how a puppy is turning out, especially if we are waiting for testicles to descend or waiting for the bite. Please contact us regarding prices on our puppies. All of our dogs are AKC registered. We occasionally place adult dogs who have retired from the show ring or our breeding program to special homes for a low adoption fee. We also sell show prospect puppy's to exhibitors. All puppies that are sold come with a 72 hour guarantee against "significant genetic abnormalities", with abnormalities that means anything that impairs/impedes the dog's ability to function normally, comfortably, and live a normal life span without the need for sustained or extensive veterinary intervention. Cosmetic issues, such as misaligned teeth, would not fall into this category. The misaligned teeth would be taken into consideration if you are buying the dog for show. We are in West Central Indiana, YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE WILLING TO COME HERE AND MEET WITH US AND THE PUPPY if you decide to get one. I believe that you can not tell a show puppy from just a picture on the internet. If I am looking for a show puppy I like to put my hands on the dog to make sure what the judge looks for is what the dog may have. Therefore, we contractually require that ALL PET PUPPIES be spayed and neutered within 6 months of purchase, and AKC papers will be with held until proof of sterilization is provided from a licensed veterinarian. Please be patient when buying a puppy I like the puppy to get to know the owner before the puppy is taken from my home. Chihuahuas are known for having problems with Hypoglycemia (if you are not sure what this is visit my Chihuahua facts page) and that is the reason for slowly transitioning the puppy from my home to yours.
The Chihuahua is a Chihuahua
Sponsored by The Chihuahua Club of America
The official A.K.C. Breed standard describes the Chihuahua as a small dog that comes from two varieties or coat types. Th difference in coat type (the Long Coat or the Smooth Coat) is the only official description used to identify a difference within this breed. Our Standard does not categorize the Chihuahua by size. For the purpose of showing and record keeping, the American Kennel Club includes the Chihuahua (along with 16 other breeds) in the Toy Group. Therefore, irrespective of their weight or physical stature, ALL Chihuahuas registered with A.K.C. are considered to be a toy breed of dog.
As with all living things, there will be a size variance between individual dogs within this breed. Within the human family, brothers, and sisters will differ in height and in weight, as well as other physical attributes. They are described as humans, male or female, and there is seldom if ever a need to break the description down further. The same holds true in regard to the Chihuahua; they are Chihuahuas-Long Coat/Smooth Coat, Male/Female.
Unfortunately, the additional adjectives used to described the size difference and physical appearances are many; and have been misused for so long they now seem legitimate. Tea-cup, Pocket Size, Tiny Toy, Miniature or Standard- are just a few of the many tags and labels that have been attached to this breed over the years. The Chihuahua Club of America is concerned that these terms may be used to entice perspective buyers into thinking that puppies described in this way are of greater monetary value. They are not; and the use of these terms is incorrect and misleading.
Occasionally, within a litter, there may be a puppy that is unusually small. That puppy is a small Chihuahua and any other breakdown in description is not correct. To attach any of these additional labels to a particular pup is to misrepresent that animals as something that is rare or exceptional and causes a great deal of confusion among those fanciers who are looking for a Chihuahua.
The Chihuahua Club of America does not endorse or condone the use of any of these terms and would caution the perspective buyer not to be misled by them.
We recognize that many Chihuahua fanciers do want the very small puppy. While they are adorable and can be perfectly healthy, the buyer should be cautioned as to the extra care that may be required with regard to their general health and well-being.
Please when emailing me copy and paste this questionnaire to your email and please fill out so I can get to know you better. Please don't think we are being to nosy this is very important to both me and my husband and to many times pets are place in the wrong homes or with the wrong people. Thanks so much!
